Quick Summary:
This article explores the intricate social dynamics and cultural shifts of the Victorian era, highlighting key developments in literature, art, and societal norms. Readers will gain a deeper understanding of how these elements shaped everyday life and influenced contemporary thought.

King Charles III and Queen Camilla will be in Australia this week — their first visit here since taking the throne.

Their visit coincides with the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, which is being held in the Samoan capital Apia.

However, given the king’s ongoing cancer treatment, the trip won’t be as busy as previous royal tours.

Charles will pause his cancer treatment during the visit but will receive it right up until he departs for Australia, UK media reports.

So, this will be a slimmed-down tour but there will still be several opportunities to see the royals.

When will King Charles and Queen Camilla be in Australia?

From Friday evening, October 18, to Wednesday, October 23.

Where in Australia will the king and queen visit?

The itinerary only includes engagements in the ACT and New South Wales.

Where can I see the king and queen?

The full itinerary is not available to the public.

The public will have the following publicly listed opportunities to see the king and queen:

Sunday, October 20

  • 11:30am: The king and queen will greet crowds following their attendance at a church service at St Thomas’ Anglican Church in North Sydney. But people will need to arrive no later than 11am to avoid road closures and allow for security screening

Monday, October 21

  • 12:35pm: The king and queen will greet crowds as they arrive at Australian War Memorial, Canberra, and visit the For Our Country Memorial. But people will need to be there no later than 11:45am to avoid road closures and allow for security screening
  • 1pm: Catch a glimpse of the royal couple as formalities commence at Parliament. House. People are being told to arrive no later than 12:10pm to avoid road closures and allow for possible security screening

Tuesday, October 22

  • 4:20pm: The royals will greet crowds at the Opera House forecourt. The entry point to the Sydney Opera House precinct will open from 3pm
  • 4:50pm: Catch a glimpse of the royals at the Man O’War Steps as they conduct a fleet review and defence force flyover. People should aim to secure a place at the Sydney Harbour foreshore vantage points (Farm Cove, Royal Botanic Gardens, and Mrs Macquarie’s Chair precinct) no later than 3:50pm to avoid road closures

Where else will they visit?

King Charles will also take a tour of the National Botanic Gardens on Black Mountain in Canberra.

He will have a meeting with scientists at the CSIRO researching the impact of bushfires and the resilience of the environment to bounce back from devastation.

Camilla will meet family and domestic violence advocates and representatives from the organisation GIVIT, which helps distribute donations across a range of charities.

In Sydney, the Royal Australian Navy will be on display during a fleet review on Sydney Harbour which will include an Australian Defence Force flyover.

There will be a community barbecue afterwards.

Australians of the Year Georgina Long and Richard Scolyer will meet the king to discuss their world-leading research on cancer treatments before Charles sits down with Indigenous representatives to learn about Australia’s First Nations culture and community.

Meanwhile, the queen will visit a Sydney library and meet students participating in a series of writing workshops.

The couple will also attend a community barbecue in Paramatta hosted by the New South Wales premier which will showcase local produce.

The king’s previous visits to Australia

King Charles III has visited Australia 16 times.

In 1966 at age 17, he completed two terms as an exchange student at Timbertop, Geelong Grammar School, in Victoria.

His most recent visit was in 2018, when he opened the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games on behalf of Queen Elizabeth II.
