Autumn is in full bloom, making it the perfect opportunity to grab your puffer jacket and scarf and start exploring.

Bendigo and Heathcote

Bendigo is one of my favorite autumn getaways, where the city streets are adorned with golden leaves that brighten your day as the winter chill approaches.

Make sure to visit Rosalind Park, famous for its lush grounds bursting with colors and stunning trees.

After your stroll, warm up at the Bendigo Art Gallery, which is currently featuring an exclusive exhibition titled Paris: Impressions of Life 1880 – 1925.

Just a quick 40-minute drive away lies another hidden gem – Heathcote. Bring a picnic and walk along McIvor Creek to the magical Valley of Liquid Ambers.

Bright

Another favorite destination renowned for its breathtaking autumn hues is Bright, nestled in the state’s High Country.

Don’t miss its ten-day autumn festival, which runs from April 26 to May 5, crowned by the Gala weekend.

Though it takes about three and a half hours to drive from Melbourne, the journey is certainly rewarding. Be sure to explore the famous rail trail, either by foot or bike.

Macedon Ranges

The Macedon Ranges are no surprise on this list, thanks to their breathtaking views.

Highly captivating in autumn, they are conveniently located just a short drive from Melbourne.

Honour Avenue is celebrated as one of the nation’s most scenic roads in autumn, attracting thousands of visitors yearly.

Be aware that stopping on this iconic tree-lined stretch is prohibited.

The region hosts its own Autumn Festival from April 5 to 28, which spans various locations, including Kyneton and Woodend.

Drive about 45 minutes to discover the charming towns of Daylesford and Hepburn Springs.

Autumn is an ideal time to enjoy this area, following the summer heat and before winter’s chill comes.

This region boasts stunning mountain landscapes and lakes, known particularly for its focus on wellness and spa treatments.

Dandenong Ranges

This area is filled with parks and gardens that showcase remarkable colors at this time of year.

Some must-visit spots include the Dandenong Ranges Botanic Garden in Olinda, especially the Chelsea Australian Garden and Alfred Nicholas Gardens.

Melbourne

If you can’t escape for a day trip, don’t worry! You can still enjoy the vibrant autumn colors in one of the city’s many gardens.

The Royal Botanical Gardens are exquisite in every season, and Carlton Gardens also offers a splendid display when the leaves change.
